I’ve been made a job offer! What do I do next?

Pop the “fizzy stuff” on ice for a moment as you need to consider how you approach this important subject. Below you’ll find a few tips to help you deliver the best outcome.

  • Be prepared for the “offer” phone call! Listen to the detail, give a warm reply and ask when they’d like to have a response by.
  • Examine the written offer. Review the offer in its entirety, including perks, benefits, holidays etc. Remember to check if the salary falls in line with the market.
  • If the offer falls below your expectations, you may want to negotiate. If on a call or by email, start and end on a high, express your enthusiasm for the role followed up with your counteroffer providing research and any additional value add you can bring to support it.
  • Follow up the offer! Once you’ve accepted the offer, why not make a call/send an email to your new Line Manager and HR expressing your excitement for the role and company.
  • All in good time! Take a moment to decide when’s the right time to update your social media network.
  • If it’s not for you! Take the time to decline a job offer as graciously as you would an acceptance. No need to burn any bridges!
